Video Review – ‘So What’ by Fantana

Born Francine Nyanko Koffi, Fantana is the latest signee on Rufftown Records. The singer lived most of her life in the US and juggled between the states and her homeland, Ghana. Before music, she owned and still owns a men’s boutique inside East Legon, Accra.

The stage name Fantana was given to her by Bullet, CEO of Rufftown Records, a label she joined after her friend and current label mate, Wendy Shay introduced her to Bullet. ‘So What’ is Fantana’s first ever single with Rufftown Records and as an artist

So What is a mid-tempo afro beats tune, which according to Fantana, is an expression of her personal life as an independent woman. The song highlights the artiste’s classiness and her non-dependency on men for love, attention and material wealth. It is definitely a club banger.

Yaw Skyface

So What was directed by the talented award-winning Ghanaian video director, Yaw Skyface, with a budget of between $10,000 to $90,000.

The video was shot in Johannesburg, South Africa, and features scenes from a lavish mansion representing the artist’s home, a classy boutique from which the artiste shopped and made custom made clothes and an obviously flashy and expensive night club.

All the sets of the video did justice to the lyrics of the song, portraying the artiste as a rich woman who already has her own life going on pretty well, and needs no support from men. The choice of location and sets also work perfectly with the budget range for the video. As a club banger, the video could have however had more clubs scenes, as this is a vibe viewers could easily catch whenever the song is played.

Props and Costumes

In the video, we could easily identify “boujie” lifestyle. The video director did excellent in his choice of props from the Ferrari to the whiskey, cigar, among others. The costumes used in the video were also on point and reveals Fantana’s tastes and experience in styling and fashion.

Yaw Skyface did a perfect job with his shots. Pictures from the video were very clear and appealing to the eye. The lighting, transitions and storyline from the video also perfectly project the lyrics of the song. The video could have however made use of more slow motion effects to elaborate the classy and expensive feel of the life of the artiste, as per the lyrics of the song.

Overall, So What is an excellent music video, especially considering that it is the artist’s first ever. We rate it at 96% and we recommend it for anyone looking for a party banger. Enjoy the video below;
